The aim of this workshop is for participants to construct a framework for online language teacher education (OLTE) and explore guiding principles for designing OLTE.
They applied these principles in their MATESOL Practicum which they put online. Their strategies can be summarized as follows:
The session begins with a description of the characteristics of online language teacher education (OLTE). OLTE is characterized by physical and temporal distance between the teacher and the student (difference between synchronous learning and a synchronous online learning). In OLTE there is two way communication and there is involvement of media.
The presenters then share principles and considerations for online language teacher education that they came up with and refer to as KAMPER:
- students share a vignette of their teaching context
- students create a learning plan to focus on during their practicum
- students collaborate with PLC
- students record two lessons, observe their colleagues and engage in feedback and discussions.
