Expanding and Using Vocabulary With Word Clouds -Suzan Stamper

This session was packed with useful activities for using word clouds to expand and use vocabulary in reading and writing. Here are some of the examples:

1) Previewing content in a course outline to give your students a general idea of what you are going to cover. I tried this using the outline of my English Methodology course syllabus:

2) Using Mentimeter word cloud for brainstorming essay ideas. This is a great idea for argumentative/opinion essays.

3) Creating two word clouds for two different articles with the aim of comparing them:

4) Creating a cloud and asking students to reconstruct the sentence. Can you guess the saying in the example I created ?

5) Creating word cards from books and asking students to guess the book. This can easily be adapted to poems, short stories and novels:

I tried it and I love the idea. Can you guess what short story this word clod refers to?
