What a wonderful and informative session from the Office of English Language Programs. I follow their work closely, but I learned quite a lot during this session.
The coffee hour highlighted the role of Regional English Language Officer (RELO) to promote English language teaching and learning.
The next part of the session revolved around activities which can be used in any English language class. Below is a summary of the main sources on the American English website :
- English Teaching Forum: This is a journal published by the U.S. Department of State for English teachers. This is such a great source of articles. These are some of my favorites:
- Raising Cultural Awareness in the English Language Classroom
- Using Public Speaking Tasks in English Language Teaching
- “Listen to the Music: Using Songs in Listening and Speaking Classes”
2. Open Educational Resources (OER): These are free downloadable resources for your classroom. One of the examples the presenters shared is the Activate Games resource which helps English teachers download games and adapt them to their own teaching context.
Another resource discussed in the session includes songs which can be used in any English language classroom.
4. Facebook: Join these very useful Facebook pages for English educators around the world to become part of the worldwide learning community.
